‘Roberto Devereux’ at Dutch National Opera

This spring, Angela Brower debuts as Sara in Gaetano Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux at the Dutch National Opera under the baton of conductor Enrique Mazzola.

Jetske Mijnssen’s staging of the bel canto masterpiece marks the final production in her critically acclaimed Tudor Trilogy, concluding her innovative exploration of Donizetti’s operas. Placing the drama in a modern setting, Mijnssen brings profound psychological insights to the four entangled central characters: Queen Elisabeth, her lover Roberto Devereux, the Queen’s lady-in-waiting Sara, and her husband the Duke of Nottingham.

Sharing the stage with Ms. Brower includes Barno Ismatullaeva as Elisabetta, Nikolai Zemlianskikh as the Duke of Nottingham, Ismael Jordi as Roberto Devereux, Thando Mjandana as Lord Cecil, Mark Kurmanbayev as Sir Gualtiero Raleigh, Peter Arink as a knight, and Sander Heutinck as a servant of Nottingham.

The performances will take place on April 18, 21, 24, 26, 29, and May 2.
